The Meadowlark Festival Banquet
Festival
organizers are especially excited about the Banquet this year, to be
held on Saturday, May 22nd, from 6pm to 10pm, at the Lakeside Resort
in Penticton.
The Guest Speaker is Briony
Penn, PhD, a geographer by trade but a Renaissance woman by
avocation. Briony is an adjunct professor at the University of Victoria
and has lectured regularly in their School of Environmental Studies and
Restoration of Natural Systems Program. She is an artist, writer,
mother, teacher, mapper, gumboot dancer, and friend to most creatures
that cannot speak for themselves. She will deliver a lively presentation
on what we can do individually to help protect our unique ecology.
To
complement Briony, who is at once a barefoot mapper and a gumboot
dancer, there will be live music courtesy of fiddler Thomas Tumbach.
There will also be both a silent and live auction. It promises to be a
spirited and enjoyable evening.
This year’s Festival Featured
Artist is Angie Roth McIntosh. Her wonderful painting ‘Meadowlark View
(Osoyoos)’, shown on the 'Featured
Artist' page, will be raffled off at the Banquet. Angie has become
even more appreciative of the beauty of the fragile local region after
25 years of painting in the south Okanagan and throughout B.C. She is
working to create connections between artists, local people and their
precious environment through her work.
Meadowlark Festival
Banquet tickets and many popular events sell out quickly every year, so
be sure to take advantage of the ‘Early Bird
Registration’.
